Tourist Bus

The Madrid Tourist Bus offers you a different way to see the city. Monuments

Given our central location, there are many monuments that surround Hostal Persal. Here are a few of them:

Puerta del Sol

Here is where the famous kilómetro cero is located as well as the statue of the Bear and the Arbutus, the symbol of Madrid; and the world-famous Casa del Reloj, where people celebrate New Year’s Eve. In the square and its surrounding areas you will find many shops, department stores, fashion boutiques, restaurants, fast food joints…

Plaza Cibeles

Located just 15 minutes away from Hostal Persal, on the intersection between Calle Alcalá and Paseo de Recoletos and Paseo del Prado, this square holds the famous fountain of Cibeles, one of the symbols of the city. Around the square there are four important buildings of Madrid: the Bank of Spain, the Palace of Linares, the Palace of Telecommunications and the Palace of Buenavista.

Plaza Mayor

A cosmopolitan corner of the city where street artists exhibit and create their works, whose centre is presided by the famous equestrian statue of king Felipe III. It is a must-see at Christmas thanks to its Christmas Market, when it fills up with stalls that sell Christmas decorations and food. When the weather is nice, it is a great place to sit down and have a drink on one of its terraces (the square is famous for its fried squid sandwiches).

Palacio Real and Almudena Cathedral

Barely 15 minutes away from the hotel, these two emblems are next to each other. Do not miss out on the garden area that surrounds them: Campo del Moro and Sabatini. In front of the palace you will also find the famous Plaza de Oriente and its collection of statues of Spanish royalty, as well as the famous Teatro Real, the opera theatre of Madrid.

Temple of Debod

Located 10 minutes away from the Palacio Real, in Plaza de España, next to Paseo de Pintor Rosales, in a high point that offers amazing views of Madrid. The temple was a present from Egypt in gratitude for Spain’s help to preserve Nubian temples.

Theatres and Musicals

Just 10 minutes away from Hostal Persal you will find the street in Madrid with the most theatres per square mile: Gran Vía. If you like musicals, this is the place to go. Check out the programme and enjoy the show!

Shopping

Sol and the central area

It offers never-ending options for shopping. On Calle Preciados, Calle del Camen and its surrounding areas you will find many fashion shops and urban-wear chains, as well as a few department stores.

Chueca

This area is perfect to go shopping in if you are looking for vintage and avant-garde items in a bohemian setting. Drop by the Fuencarral Market (Calle Fuencarral, close to Gran Vía metro stop) or by Calle Hortaleza (next to Chueca metro stop). You won’t regret it!

Argüelles

On streets such as Calle Alberto Aguilera or Calle Princesa you will find many shops to enjoy a morning or afternoon of affordable shopping.

Barrio de Salamanca (Madrid’s Golden Mile)

Synonymous of luxury and sophistication, here you will find the most prestigious fashion brands spread around Calle Serrano, Calle Velázquez, Calle Goya, Calle Jorge Juan or Calle Lagasca.

Bullfighting

If you like bullfighting, just 20 minutes away from Hostal Persal you will find the famous Las Ventas bullring. Every Sunday from early March to October you can enjoy bullfights and special festivals.
